Latest Updates from Our Project:

The Final Rulebook is Here
19 days ago – Fri, Jul 31, 2026 at 02:39:10 PM

Hi friends,

You can find the PDF version of the final Grim Dynasty rulebook PDF here. While the English version is completed as promised, we're still laying out the German version. I hope to have that to you by next week, along with an update on our manufacturing start date.

Production Roadmap is Here!
about 1 month ago – Fri, Jul 17, 2026 at 02:01:39 PM

Hi Friends,

I've been working with the factory and our logistics team to finally put this thing to bed, and I'm excited to lay out the roadmap for you. We're nearly ready to manufacture, with mostly small odds and ends that need to be cleaned up first. You can see the schedule below. I'll also mention that because manufacturing will take some time, I won't lock your shipping addresses yet. We're getting requests to update addresses, and I'm sure that will continue, so I'll leave it so you're able to do that on your own until at least late August.

  • End of July - Final Rulebooks Released - We're doing a few final cleanups in the rulebook and fixing a handful of compliance things with the packaging, but our goal is to have the final rulebook PDF before the end of the month. That will include English and hopefully German as well.
  • Early August - Manufacturing Begins - Mass production will last just under two months according to the factory, with the bulk of the time dedicated to creating the huge number of dice!
  • Late September - Quality Inspection and Packaging Begins
  • Early October - Sea Shipment Begins - We'll be splitting the games and shipping to the separate hubs around the world.
  • November - Shipments Arrive and Fulfillment Begins - Our factory estimates that shipments should generally start to arrive the first week of November, but logistics partners think that's on the optimistic side. Our hope is that our fulfillment partners will be ready to go as soon as the pallets arrive, and we haven't settled on fulfillment centers so we can try and book that spot ahead of time.

Catching Up on Messages

I've been inundated with DMs throughout this campaign, which is understandable! I've definitely gotten behind on responding at times, but I've gone back through and I think cleared up everything that's outstanding at this point. If i've missed something or you still have a question that's been unanswered, DM me again and I'll get back to you ASAP.

Updates to Tabletop Simulator

Users of Tabletop Simulator have probably noticed by now that the Village Attacks module has a lot of busted assets. Apparently, a change to how they allow cloud storage for these assets has broken things for us, but we're working on getting that up and running again.

If you want to play the base game in the meantime, don't forget it's available on Tabletopia for free.

What's Next

My next update will include the final rulebooks, and I'll answer any questions that might pop up between now and then. I'm thankful for your support and patience and am very excited to get this into your hands. I'll also be adding the rest of the expansions to BGG and I hope to finally start the series of videos i've been talking about.

As for the future, I'm not going to make any announcements until we're printing the games, but expect more from Village Attacks and some other Grimlord titles next year.

Quick Update on our Roadmap
about 2 months ago – Fri, Jul 03, 2026 at 12:49:15 PM

Hi friends,

Apologies for the long wait, i've been helping stragglers get into the pledge manager and have been ironing out details about moving all of our existing stock to our fulfillment partner for this project, but instead of waiting until we have final details about the fulfillment play I figured a quick update will be better. We're taking care of a few last minute details, but I'll have an update two weeks from today on the final time table for manufacturing and fulfillment. Thanks again for your patience!

Sample Review Complete + Pledge Manager Closing Date
4 months ago – Tue, May 05, 2026 at 08:19:36 AM

Hey gang,

Sorry for the longer period without an update. The sewer beneath my house was dug up, then dug up again, and it's been chaotic to say the least, as the basement is where all my board game stuff is tucked away. I'm finally unpacking it all now and am excited to give you a few updates

Big picture, i'll be talking to fulfillment and manufacturing partners over the next week or two and getting a final timeline in place, as we've received and approved (with a minor change) the last of the expansions from the manufacturer.

Final Review is Done!

I've received new copies of Major Arcana and The Wretched Journey, and we've now given the green light after one minor change. Everything in The Wretched Journey looked good, except for a broken horn on the Sun Wukong miniature. After looking closely, I can see that an adjustment in the tray needs to be made to allow room for the horn, but otherwise it's looking good!

The hardcover books will also be much higher quality compared to the first attempt, since we've gone with a thicker cardboard.

Pledge Manager is Closing

As we bring this thing to an end, it's time to close the pledge manager. I will be closing the pledge manager at 11:59 P.M. US Central Time on May 26. That means you've got three weeks to make any changes, update your address, or finalize your order. I know some of you were waiting until the last minute to do your survey, and that time is now. We will stop taking preorders at that time, too.

Thanks For Your Patience

Thanks again for your patience, as this has obviously taken longer than we had initially hoped, but the reality is I'm confident the quality has improved drastically after having gone over all of the prototypes carefully first. Having learned a lot from this process, I'm confident next time we'll be able to do a lot more of this work ahead of time, too.

I haven't had a chance to do the video content I promised after the unexecpted issues with my basement, but I'm still working on that and hope to have my setup done soon!

Progress Report and a look at the samples
5 months ago – Tue, Mar 17, 2026 at 09:18:18 AM

Hi friends,

I've been busy going through the samples sent by the factory, and we also were in a holding pattern for a bit during Chinese New Year, but now we're getting close to the finish line.

I had promised some videos and was going to unbox each of these, but I've struggled getting my setup to work so I figured videos can wait. Below I've got samples for everything except The Wretched Journey, which is the last thing we're waiting on. Once I get that from the factory and they make a few small adjustments we'll be ready to manufacture.

We've been fixing minor issues along the way, including going for a thicker cover on the Art Book and Major Arcana so they don't feel flimsy. We've corrected all of the issues I mentioned in past updates too.

I'll do the next update once i have the Wretched Journey sample, and I'll also set a final date for the pledge manager and give you an updated timeline. Thanks for your patience!

Village Attacks Core Game

The core game hasn't changed much, but in my opinion the updated packaging is far more convenient. With the original game I found myself sticking cards or tokens under the bottom tray just to get the box to close, but that shouldn't be an issue here.

I've removed the dashboards, but they fit in this top tray nicely.

Below the top tray are the two miniature trays with a clear lid. The miniatures fit a little better into these trays than the original, in my opinion.

Village Attacks: Grim Dynasty Reborn

I'm a fan of the trays in Grim Dynasty too. Below the dashboards there is a cutout that holds the tokens.

Ignore the missing miniature, your box will come with all six of each model.

Castle Heart

Dragon Clan

Ignore the white bases, those are just leftovers used for the sample.

Moguai

Artefacts

Heroes of Legend

Judgement & Reckoning

Notice anything off? We got double monster miniatures over here. We're clearing this up and including a cutout for the bases.

The Troll

Nothing major changing here, except that the tray is deeper than the original version, which makes it a little less likely to bounce around in the box.

and that's it. I'll do the next update as soon as I have The Wretched Journey in hand!
